For the Tedeschi Trucks Band's new album I Am the Moon, bandleaders Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi led their roots-music collective to re-examine the source poem for the classic Derek and the Dominos Layla album, and that album itself, to create an ambitious new four-part opus that tells Layla's side of the story. Hed go and find these amazing instruments, and when I go to New York for the Beacon Theater run with the Allmans every year, we go on an acoustic-guitar search (laughs) and try to find something we might need for the studio or the road. Then we realised, Oh, wow! I had seen her name. And when the two cut heads, as on Playing With My Emotions, its pure blues-rock magic. But it wasnt written or scripted when we went to that. Is that something you see? [Laughs] I think we are all very influenced by 70s music for sure., There are so many metaphors with this record.
